Overheard someone say their employer tracks every keystroke, now rethink my remote setup
I was grabbing coffee last week and heard a guy in line say his company uses software that logs every single keystroke and website visit. He said they get alerts if you open a personal doc during work hours. That got me thinking about my own setup - I use a separate browser for personal stuff now, but I never really checked what my VPN actually hides. Has anyone else double-checked their employer's monitoring policy after hearing a story like that?

Doubt most companies actually care enough to monitor that close.

Oh you really think most of them are that hands off, @milaprice? I gotta say I've seen the exact opposite at the two different places I worked. First job had this whole system where they tracked every single login and logout down to the second, and if you were two minutes late they'd send a warning email. Second place was even worse, they had software that would take screenshots of your screen every five minutes if you were working from home. Like come on, I get being accountable but it felt like they didn't trust us at all. I think a lot of companies talk about caring about their people but then they turn around and install this stuff without even telling you. So yeah, I'm on your side here, it's way more common than people realize.

Is it just me or does this whole tracking thing feel like it's bleeding into every part of life now? Like, even my grocery store app sends me a notification if I haven't shopped there in a week, and my car insurance wants to put a monitor on my driving. It's like we're all being graded on everything all the time (and nobody asked for this).
