Paid $40 for a privacy screen protector that did nothing but annoy me

I got this so-called military grade matte screen protector last week thinking it would stop people from snooping on my laptop at coffee shops, but all it did was make everything look dim and rainbow colored. Turns out my coworker could still read my emails from across the table because the coating just diffuses light, it doesn't block viewing angles at all. Anyone else waste money on a privacy product that was basically a scam?

Matte screen protectors are for cutting glare, not for privacy. You need one of those film ones that actually narrows the viewing angle, those make the screen go black from the side.

My $20 matte screen protector works fine for blocking side views though.

My friend tried one of those privacy films and it made her screen so dim she had to max the brightness just to see anything, which then killed her battery in like an hour. Did you keep it on or just pull it off?
