Pro tip: my neighbor warned me about smart TVs listening in
My neighbor Rick who works IT told me last year those smart TVs actually record snippets of what you say. I laughed it off until I saw a targeted ad for a board game I mentioned once while the TV was on. Then I checked the privacy settings on my 2021 Samsung and found audio collection was enabled by default. Has anyone else caught their TV doing this?

My 2020 Samsung has never shown me a single ad related to anything spoken near it. I live alone and talk to myself constantly about weird stuff, like what I need from the grocery store or random song lyrics. If these TVs were really recording and selling that data, I would have gotten an ad for bananas or that one obscure 80s song by now. The board game thing was probably just good old fashioned data mining from your phone or computer, not the TV.

Your neighbor Rick is right, and your TV is definitely listening. Just because you haven't seen a banana ad doesn't mean it's not happening, the algorithms only care about things that match your actual purchase history or interests. The board game thing is way too specific to be a coincidence from phone data alone.
