That one Reddit comment that made me ditch Google Photos forever
Some user pointed out that Google scans your photos for things like faces and locations to train their AI. I mean, I knew that on some level. But they said "every selfie you take is just free training data for them" and something about that hit different. I moved everything to an external drive last weekend. 200GB of photos from the last 6 years. Took like 4 hours but honestly feels better not having my vacation pics be part of some machine learning project. Has anyone else just noped out of a service after one specific comment?

Man I read that same comment and it stopped me cold. 200GB of your own life, those are memories, not just files to be fed into some algorithm. It's one thing to know it in a vague sense, but seeing it spelled out like that really makes your stomach turn. Makes you think twice about every picture you take on your phone now. I went through my own cloud last month and pulled everything local too, just to have peace of mind. It's wild how we hand over all this personal stuff without a second thought until somebody says it out loud.

Hits different when you realize your whole life is just data points for somebody else's bottom line. Makes you wonder what other stuff we just accept without thinking twice, huh?
