Blind date guy tried to impress me by ordering in French and the waiter replied in English

We were at this Italian place downtown and he kept mispronouncing the menu items so badly the waiter just switched to English to help. I sipped my water and didn't say a word the whole time, has anyone else sat through someone's fake accent act?

The whole ordering in French thing reminds me of this guy at a party who kept saying he was "basically fluent" in Spanish then ordered a taco and the server just looked at him like he was insane. I once dated someone who tried to teach me wine terms at a dive bar and the bartender handed him a bottle opener and said "you figure it out champ." At least your date didn't try to tip the waiter in euros or something, that's always a classic cringe move.

I mean come on, at least the guy tried to put in some effort and show he was cultured, lots of people just show up and grunt at the menu. Your mileage may vary but I'd rather sit through a bad accent than a guy who can't say "thank you" to the server.
