Hot take: I don't think family dinners on dates are a total dealbreaker
I went on a third date where his whole family just happened to show up at the restaurant. It was super awkward, don't get me wrong, and I felt totally put on the spot. But idk, watching him get ribbed by his little sister and how he talked to his mom actually told me more about him than our other chats. Maybe it's just me, but I think how someone acts under that kind of pressure is more honest than a perfectly planned solo date.

Hey, you mentioning how someone acts under pressure being more honest really stuck with me. I read a thing online a while back that said family dinners are like a sneak peek into their real personality. Sure, it's awkward as heck when you're not expecting it, but seeing them be a good sport or kind to their mom tells you more than any fancy date. My cousin had a similar surprise meetup and she said it actually made her feel closer to the guy. So maybe it's not always a disaster if you go with the flow.

Totally agree, those unplanned moments show a lot. Your point about going with the flow is spot on, @gibson.holly.

Honestly, that surprise meetup thing is so true. My friend ended up at her boyfriend's mom's house without warning and it showed how chill he was when things didn't go as planned.
