Just realized my ex was right about me talking too much on dates, but is there a line?

So I used to go on these dinners and just talk the whole time. Like about work, my hobbies, stuff I read. Thought it was keeping things moving. Then my ex told me, 'You never ask why, you just tell.' Burned for weeks but she wasn't wrong. I started counting how many questions I asked per meal, my average was like 2 in 90 minutes. Now I flip it, ask more, talk less. Feels forced sometimes though. Like are we supposed to turn every date into an interview? Where's the balance between sharing and grilling someone? Has anyone else gotten that feedback and tried to fix it, or did you just find someone who likes a monologue?

Counting questions feels super robotic at first. I did the same thing after a bad breakup and it took like 6 months before it felt normal. Now I just treat it like a conversation ping pong match, share something, ask something, repeat.

Wait, six months of counting questions? Honestly, that's wild dedication, I would have snapped way before that. Ngl, I'm kind of impressed you stuck it out that long.
