My choice between a steakhouse and a taco stand ended in disaster
So I had this first date last month in Austin and she said pick the spot. I went with this fancy steakhouse downtown, 60 bucks a plate. She ordered a salad and spent the whole time on her phone. Should've gone with the taco stand where I usually hang out, at least the vibe would've been real. Anyone else regret trying to impress someone with a pricey place?

That part about the burger being the best part of the night really hits home. I've noticed how we all get caught up trying to sell a version of ourselves that just ends up making everyone uncomfortable.

Went to a fancy Italian spot for a first date once, the kind where they bring out bread and charge you for it. She spent half the meal telling me about her cat's Instagram account. I'm sitting there paying 15 bucks for a glass of wine I didn't even want, just nodding along. Ended up cutting it short and grabbing a burger at a dive bar down the street by myself. That burger was the best part of the whole night. Learned my lesson right there, never again trying to impress someone with a price tag.

Honestly saw something once that said "the best dates are the ones where you don't have to pretend" and that burger story proves it. Ngl that whole cat Instagram thing alone would've been my sign to dip early, can't blame you for bouncing. Sometimes the dive bars and cheap food end up being way more memorable than all that fancy stuff.
