My date in Austin last month brought his mom to the restaurant

She sat at the next table and kept giving me advice on how to order my steak. Has anyone else had a date's family show up unannounced?

So what if his mom gave steak tips? At least she wasn't like @brookeross's example of someone doing your private laundry. Maybe the guy was nervous and his mom was just trying to make sure the dinner went well. Some families are really close like that, and it could be a sign he values their opinion.

Maybe it's a bit weird, but is it a total deal breaker? The mom was just trying to be helpful in her own way. It's not like she moved in with you.

Just trying to be helpful" by secretly washing your underwear? That's not help, that's a huge boundary stomp. I'd be so creeped out finding out someone did my laundry without asking.
