My date's dog ate my car keys in a park in Sacramento
This was about a month ago. We met for a walk around McKinley Park, and he brought his big, friendly golden retriever. Everything was fine until I set my keys down on a bench to tie my shoe. The dog just snatched them up like a toy. I spent twenty minutes trying to get him to drop them while my date just kept saying, 'He's never done that before.' The keys were covered in slobber and one of the fob buttons was totally chewed off. We had to call his roommate to bring the spare key, and I drove home with the windows down because my car smelled like wet dog. Anyone else have a date completely derailed by a pet?

Honestly used to think bringing a dog on a date was a cute idea. Tbh this story about the chewed key fob and the wet dog smell in your car totally changed my mind. That sounds like a huge hassle, especially having to wait for a spare key. Ngl, pets can really throw a wrench in things.

My friend's labradoodle ruined a brand new pair of suede boots on a picnic date last spring. I totally get what @annanguyen is saying, because it's not just about the stuff they might wreck. You also have to watch them the whole time instead of focusing on your date. It adds a whole other layer of stress that can kill the mood. Honestly, save the dog for a walk in the park another day.

Totally agree with both of you. It shifts the whole focus of the date from connecting with a person to basically being a dog sitter. That constant worry about what they're chewing or who they're bothering just kills any chance to relax. Feels like you're on duty instead of on a date. Why even bother going out if you can't actually pay attention to each other? Seems like a sure way to make a bad first impression, right?
