Overheard a woman in the coffee shop line say she always pays for the first date to test how the guy reacts
She said if he gets weird about it or insists on splitting, she knows he's got a fragile ego. If he graciously accepts or offers to grab the next one, that's a green light. Made me wonder how often little stuff like who pays actually filters out the wrong people early on?

Does she just pay for the whole thing upfront or does she pull out her card at the last second? Because the delivery probably matters a lot more than the gesture itself for catching the fragile ones off guard.

My sister's been doing this exact thing for about two years now, ever since she got tired of covering dinners for guys who never offered to pay for anything. She told me the first time she tried it, the guy got so upset he actually argued with her at the restaurant counter. He kept saying it made him look bad and that she was trying to embarrass him in public. She said that one bad reaction was worth the peace of mind of knowing she'd never have to see him again.
