Showerthought: Why does everyone think a fancy restaurant automatically means a good date?

I took someone to a hole-in-the-wall pho spot for $8 and we talked for 3 hours, but my friend spent $150 at a steakhouse downtown and said it was the most awkward silence of her life, so can we stop pretending the price tag makes the vibe?

@the_xena brings up something real but I gotta play the other side here. Conversation is only half the battle. If the place is too loud or the seats are too close or the food is trash, that talk gets strained real quick. Doesn't matter if you're both great at chatting when you can't hear each other over the music. You ever been on a date where the talk was solid but the whole vibe was off and it still flopped?
