The date who talked about his ex for 45 minutes straight
I used to sit through bad dates hoping things would improve, but after a guy at Chili's in Omaha went on about his ex-girlfriend's cat allergies for nearly an hour, I started setting a 20 minute mental timer. Now I just say I need to feed my own cat and leave. Has anyone else made a quick exit rule for themselves?

Ha, 20 minutes is generous. I once sat through a full hour of someone detailing their ex's dental history.

A whole hour about cat allergies? That is something, but I have to wonder if maybe he was just nervous and rambling. People do that sometimes when they are trying too hard to fill the silence. A 20 minute timer seems a little strict. Some of the best conversations I have had started off awkward and took a while to find their footing. Maybe give it a little more time before you bail, unless he starts describing the exact texture of her cat's fur or something.
