Thought online dating was a scam until my sister met her husband on Hinge

I spent years telling anyone who would listen that matching with strangers on an app was just asking for trouble. Then my little sister Sarah matched with this guy Dave last February, they did coffee at a place near her apartment in Portland, and now they're planning a wedding for next June. I still think half the profiles are bots but I guess I was wrong about all of it. Has anyone else had their whole take flipped by seeing someone close to them make it work?

My sister's story is basically the same as yours, down to the coffee meetup at a place three blocks from her apartment. @hayden_butler27 might have a point about it being luck, but I think the whole "half are bots" thing gets thrown around too much. My buddy runs a small IT repair shop and he showed me some data from these apps, most profiles are real people just as awkward as the rest of us. The ghosting and bad dates are definitely real, but I've seen two marriages come out of Hinge now and that's hard to argue with.

Sarah met her guy on Bumble last fall and now I'm rethinking my whole take on meeting people online.

One friend's success story doesn't really mean the whole dating app thing is legit now. Most people I know who tried it got ghosted or ended up on terrible dates that went nowhere. Might just be luck of the draw more than anything else.
