TIL that wearing a costume on a first date is apparently a red flag
I showed up to a coffee date at Brew House on 5th dressed as a pirate for Halloween last year. She blinked at me for a solid 10 seconds then asked if I was serious. I thought it was funny but she left after 5 minutes. Has anyone else had a themed outfit backfire on a date?

A costume shows you aren't afraid to be playful and spontaneous, which is way more interesting than showing up in the same boring jeans everyone else wears. If she can't handle a little joke on a first date, she probably would've been a buzzkill down the road anyway. Sounds like she dodged a fun night, not the other way around.

Hmm, I gotta push back a little on that. A costume on a first date isn't always playful, sometimes it comes off like you're not taking the date seriously at all. There's a big difference between being spontaneous and just showing up in something totally random without any warning. If you talked about it beforehand and she agreed, that's one thing, but springing it on her out of nowhere is a bit much. It can feel less like a joke and more like you're testing her, which isn't a great way to start things off.
