Vent: My date stormed off when I had a friend tag along

I was so anxious about meeting someone new that I asked my friend to sit nearby. In my view, this helps keep things calm, but my date called it a deal-breaker and ended things. Is it really that wrong to have a friend close by on a first date?

Yikes, @the_lily nailed it. That setup must have felt like a surprise two-on-one interview, which is way worse than just being quietly watched.

Having a friend secretly watch is kinda weird though. It probably made your date feel like they were being tested or judged.

The friend wasn't secretly watching from a bush. They were just at another table in the same cafe to be nearby. It's more about having a quick exit plan than judging the date.
