Why does nobody talk about the 'check split' test on a first date?
I went out with someone last Friday who ordered three appetizers, a steak, and two fancy cocktails, then got quiet when the $127 bill came. She said 'I thought you'd get this since you asked me out' but my rule is to split unless we talked about it before. Has a first date bill ever made you rethink seeing someone again?

Honestly @xena_brown50 nailed it, that exact quiet bill moment made me cancel a second date once.

Honestly, expecting a split by default feels like a weird modern trap. If you ask someone out and pick the place, there's an old-school vibe that you're hosting. That steak and cocktail order might have been a test to see if you were generous, not cheap. Maybe she got quiet because she felt like a business meeting, not a date.

Ever think the person asking should pay? I used to split everything, but this makes sense.
