Finally understood why my character poses looked stiff after watching a 2-minute gesture drawing tutorial on YouTube.

I'd been focusing on perfect line work for hours, but the video said to do 30-second sketches focusing only on the flow of the spine and shoulders, which completely changed how I approach my initial sketches.

What specific part of the tutorial clicked for you? Was it seeing the spine drawn as a single curved line first, or did they show a common mistake you were making?

Look, I get where joseph is coming from, drawing should be fun, but sometimes you hit a wall. For me, seeing the spine as one simple curve first was the game changer. It stopped me from trying to draw every little bone and made the whole pose feel loose and natural. The tutorial pointing out that mistake of starting with stiff straight lines saved me hours of frustration. It’s not rocket science, but those little tips can make a huge difference.

Honestly it's just drawing, how deep do we need to go. The tutorial probably just showed a basic shape and people are overthinking it. Why make it sound like rocket science?
