Hit 500 followers on my art account and it felt weirdly empty
I finally cracked 500 followers last week on my digital art Instagram page. Everyone talks about hitting a milestone like it's this huge deal, but honestly it just made me stop and think. Most of those 500 people probably followed me because I used trending hashtags on a fan art piece I did of a popular video game character. I actually got way more value from the 12 people who commented on my original character design last month and told me exactly why they liked the color palette. Those comments taught me more about what works in my art than 500 silent followers ever could. The numbers game just feels like it rewards posting the same popular stuff everyone else does instead of trying something new. Has anyone else felt like the follower count hype is overrated compared to getting real feedback from just a handful of people?

Treat those 500 like a crowd and those 12 like your real audience.
