Hit 500 follows on my art account and it felt weird

Started posting my digital paintings last July, just sketches of landscapes and some fantasy stuff. Checked my stats yesterday and saw I hit 500 followers, which is way more than I expected for someone who just does this as a hobby. The number that surprised me more was that 60 of those came from one post of a sunset over a lake that I almost didn't upload because I thought it was too plain. Makes me wonder if people just like simple scenes more than the detailed character art I spend hours on. Has anyone else had a random piece do way better than the ones you worked hardest on?

Doesn't that always happen with the simplest stuff?

Yeah I had a portrait that took me like 8 hours get maybe 20 likes but a quick 10 minute doodle of a cat in a box got over 200. Really makes you question your whole process sometimes.
