I used to think gallery wall layouts were just personal preference until I tried two different approaches back to back

For years I just threw art up on my walls using my gut feeling. It always looked a little off but I could never figure out why. Then I did a project where I used a grid layout for one wall and a salon style cluster for another. The grid wall with evenly spaced frames in straight rows just looked clean and intentional right away. The salon wall where I tried to mix sizes and angles took me like 8 tries and still felt messy. Now I'm kind of convinced that grid layouts are just easier for most rooms unless you really know what you're doing with spacing. Has anyone else found that one style just works better than the other no matter what you hang?

Grids really do force a kind of muscle memory once you hit that third row.

So how big was the room you hung the grid in?

The room was barely big enough for a twin bed AND the grid setup, so I was basically working in a glorified closet. My knees were knocking against the frame every time I tried to step back to see if the lines looked straight. Let's just say that grid taught me more about contortionism than proper alignment.
