I was surprised to learn most "digital art" on Etsy is just AI slop repackaged as hand drawn
I was browsing the digital art section on Etsy last Tuesday looking for a new piece for my office and kept finding the same weird textures and repeating patterns across dozens of shops. I zoomed in on about 15 listings claiming to be hand painted and every single one had those telltale AI artifacts - weird lines where hands should be, nonsensical background details. Found a thread on Reddit where someone did a deep dive and estimated 70 percent of the top selling digital art on Etsy is now AI generated with no disclosure. I get using AI as a tool, but selling it as original hand drawn work feels dishonest. Has anyone else noticed this in the digital art community and called it out?

Ehh, I mean if someone can make good looking art with AI and sell it on Etsy, more power to them honestly. The buyers who don't care or can't tell the difference are still getting something they like for their wall.

I saw someone on Etsy selling AI generated "watercolor" prints the other day and they had over 2,000 sales at 15 bucks a pop. That really stuck with me because behind every one of those sales is a real human artist who spent years learning how to actually paint with watercolors and now has to compete with something that took maybe 5 minutes of typing. It's not really about whether the buyer is happy or not, its about the people who lose out when we decide that skill and practice dont matter anymore. Your mileage may vary, but to me this whole thing feels like we're slowly telling artists that their entire craft is worthless just so we can save a few bucks on wall decor.

I started watermarking every listing with a timestamp video a few months ago and it actually cut my competition with AI shops in half because they can't fake that.
