Threw my art into a low-res pixel filter for a joke and got more likes than my polished pieces ever did

I spent 40 hours on a realistic portrait and posted it alongside a 5-minute pixel version of a different subject, and the pixel one blew up so now I'm wondering if we as artists are overvaluing technical precision over immediate visual impact, has anyone else seen this kind of reverse snobbery in feedback?

40 hours on a realistic portrait" ... man that stings, but also like, maybe it's not that deep. People scroll fast and a pixel thing catches the eye differently, doesn't mean they hate your good work.

Has this happened to anyone where you spend forever on something and people just kinda scroll past? I threw a half-finished sketch up once and it got way more attention than anything I ever put actual effort into, it's got to be about how it looks in a tiny thumbnail before you even click. Maybe it's just the algorithm playing tricks or people liking punchy stuff more than what's "good" technically, but it definitely makes you question what you're even doing.
