Went from drawing stick figures to a halfway decent portrait in 6 months - here's what clicked
I started digital art during lockdown with a cheap tablet from Amazon, and my first attempts looked like a 5 year old drew them. After 6 months of practicing almost every night for 30 minutes, I finally drew a portrait of my mom that actually looked like her. Turns out the game changer was learning to block out shapes instead of focusing on lines. Has anyone else had a specific technique just suddenly make everything click?

Man that's awesome, sincerely. I remember that exact feeling of finally seeing someone's face come out of the screen and it's actually them. The shapes over lines thing is huge, I had a similar moment when someone told me to stop drawing what I think an eye looks like and just copy the dark spots and angles I actually see. It sounds simple but it took me forever to really get it. Six months of daily practice is no joke either, most people give up way before that. Good on you for sticking with it.
