Picked my sister's stuffing over my mom's at Christmas dinner and it caused a war

So at our family Christmas dinner last month, my mom always makes this sage stuffing that's been the same recipe for like 20 years. But my sister brought a totally different stuffing with apples and sausage and it was amazing. I grabbed seconds of my sister's and my mom got quiet. Later in the kitchen she asked me straight up which one I liked better and I panicked and said my sister's. My mom didn't talk to me for the rest of the night. My sister thought it was hilarious but my brother told me I should have lied. Now I'm dreading Easter because I know this is gonna come up again. Has anyone else dealt with choosing sides on food at family dinners and how do you fix it without making someone mad?

Yeah, I've been there. My mother in law makes this dense meatloaf that she's been doing for thirty years, and my sister in law showed up with these little bacon wrapped turkey meatloaf things that were way better. I said I liked them both, but later my mother in law cornered me in the pantry and I froze and told her the truth. She didn't talk to me for two weeks. What I learned is you gotta have a plan before the next holiday. Bring a side dish yourself and then you can praise your mom's stuffing and your sister's stuffing in the same breath while pushing your own. Or you can tell your mom you're just excited to have two kinds of stuffing now, like it's a bonus. That way nobody gets singled out as the loser.

Patriciap52's idea about bringing your own dish is solid but you gotta commit hard to it. Make something that's technically a stuffing but looks nothing like either of theirs, like a wild rice thing with mushrooms and pecans. Then when your mom asks, you can say "I'm just glad we have three different stuffings now, mine's the weird one nobody has to like." That way you're taking the heat off by making yourself the third option nobody is comparing.
