Found a local diner that uses free and clear dish soap on everything

I stopped into Mel's Diner on Route 9 last weekend and the owner told me they switched to free and clear dish soap after customers kept complaining about a weird aftertaste on their coffee mugs. Has anyone else noticed soap residue affecting the taste of drinks from restaurants?

Then you probably haven't met my friend's nasty sulfur tasting tap water.

@xena373 That "nasty sulfur" part caught my attention. Where exactly does your friend live? I'm asking because sulfur taste can come from a few different things, and some of them are easy fixes while others mean real trouble. Could be the water heater anode rod breaking down, or it could be actual bacteria growing in the pipes. Does the smell get worse when they run hot water compared to cold? That would tell us which problem we're dealing with. If it's the water heater a simple swap of the anode rod usually does the trick. But if it's in the cold water too then they might need to shock the well or install a filter system.
