I laughed at the lavender Dawn hype until a grease fire in my kitchen sink shut me up

Last summer in Tulsa, I was frying up chicken and a splash of oil caught fire on the stove. I tossed the pan in the sink, panicked, and grabbed the only soap I had - a bottle of Dawn Free & Clear lavender I got as a joke gift. That stuff cut through the grease and cooled everything down faster than I expected, and now I buy it on purpose. Anyone else have a dish soap save you from a real mess?

Yeah @terryh20 same exact thing happened to me with bacon grease. That lavender stuff is no joke.

Honestly, the scary part is what that stuff is doing to the pipes. Like sure, it's great at cutting through grease in a pan, but what about all that emulsified grease going down the drain and re-solidifying somewhere in the wall? I've heard plumbers say that the antibacterial stuff in lavender Dawn can actually kill the good bacteria in your septic system too. So yeah, it's a miracle for a quick cleanup, but in the long run it might be creating a bigger mess you just can't see.

A 10-year-old bottle of lavender Dawn from a white elephant exchange. That's what I had under my sink when my kid dumped a pot of bacon grease all over the stove and the floor. I figured it was worthless but it broke the grease down in like 30 seconds flat. Now I buy the stuff on purpose too, even though it smells like my grandma's bathroom. It's honestly terrifying how well it worked.
