PSA: Stay away from the discount soap at the gas station on Route 9

I stopped at that Shell off exit 12 last weekend to grab some dish soap for a camping trip, and I picked up their generic brand thinking it would save a buck. Big mistake. That stuff smelled like a mix of old gym socks and artificial lemon, and it barely cut through the bacon grease from breakfast. I had to scrub each pan like three times and still felt a film left behind. My buddy said his hands broke out in a rash after using it on his cast iron. has anyone else run into a bad batch of budget soap from a random gas station?

My coworker grabbed a bottle of that same soap for washing up after a BBQ at his cabin, and he said it left a weird sticky residue on everything. He spent the next morning scrubbing his camping mugs again with actual Dawn just to get the film off. His wife made him toss the rest of the bottle right in the dumpster.

dude that sucks, i feel your pain. i grabbed a bottle of that stuff out of desperation during a power outage last fall, thinking hey soap is soap right? nope. it left this weird slimy feeling on my hands no matter how much i rinsed, and i swear my coffee tasted like chemicals after i washed my thermos with it. i ended up tossing the whole thing after one use, didn't even bother trying to return it because who's gonna argue over a two dollar bottle of soap. your buddy getting a rash is next level bad though, that stuff sounds genuinely dangerous if you have sensitive skin.

i honestly wonder if that stuff is even legally soap or if they just bottled up some industrial degreaser and called it a day... i had a similar experience with a cheap hand soap that left a film so bad i thought my hands were coated in wax, which is funny because i once tried to save money by using dish soap as body wash in college and learned the hard way that some things are just not interchangeable... ended up smelling like a plate for three days. your friend's rash is seriously concerning though, like at that point it's not just bad soap it's a potential lawsuit waiting to happen. i'm glad you tossed yours because i would've probably kept using it out of stubbornness and ended up with chemical burns on my coffee cup.
