Tried that Meyer's lemon dish soap everyone raves about and now I'm mad at myself

After 2 years of insisting Dawn was the only thing that could handle my greasy cast iron, I grabbed a bottle on clearance for $3 and now my plates actually smell like lemons instead of just 'clean'... has anyone else been converted by a fancy soap that you were sure was overhyped?

Wait, are you using fancy dish soap on your cast iron? You know you're not supposed to use soap on cast iron at all, right?

Nah man, I used to think that too but then I ruined a skillet by never washing it. Mine got all nasty with buildup no matter how much I seasoned it. @norag66, I switched to using a tiny drop of mild dish soap like Dawn and it actually fixed my problem. Just make sure you rinse it real good and dry it on the stove before storing it. That whole "soap strips seasoning" thing is mostly a myth from when soap had lye in it.

Haven't you gotten any seasoning buildup issues from going totally soap-free though? I tried the no soap route for a while and my eggs started sticking like crazy before I gave up and just used a regular drop of Dawn.
