Don't waste money on a 'divorce coach' like I did
I paid this woman $800 for 4 sessions thinking she'd help me navigate the legal stuff. She just read me affirmations and told me to journal. Has anyone actually gotten something useful from one of those or did I just get a bad apple?

Journaling and affirmations won't help you with custody or money stuff, find a lawyer who does consultations.

Yeah the "find a lawyer" part is solid advice. I was reading somewhere that a lot of family court stuff comes down to paperwork and deadlines, not just feelings.

Two years ago I sat in my car crying after a free legal clinic where the lawyer spent ten whole minutes just telling me what forms to file before the deadline. Journaling helped me actually get my thoughts straight enough to write that affidavit without rambling on about everything my ex did wrong. So yeah, a good lawyer is key, but don't sleep on writing stuff down when it helps you organize your story for them.
