I read a study about the financial impact of divorce and the numbers were surprising

I was looking at some research from a university in Ohio and found that, on average, a person's household income drops by about 41% after a divorce. I found this in a report from the university's family studies department. Has anyone else seen solid data on the financial side of things and how they planned for it?

That 41% drop might not account for people who were already covering most expenses alone.

My friend in Denver lost half her retirement savings.

Wow, that 41% number is a real gut punch. I used to just think about the emotional cost, but seeing the hard numbers like that changes everything. It makes what @jake_owens said about his friend's retirement savings feel even more real, you know? It really shows you need a financial plan, not just a legal one, before anything gets started.
