Is it better to stay friends for the kids or cut contact completely?

My ex and I have been divorced for 6 months now, and we try to do the 'friendly co-parent' thing for our 8-year-old daughter. But every time we talk, it just stirs up old arguments and I end up feeling awful for two days. Has anyone here had to choose between these two paths and can tell me what really worked?

Jumping in here to gently push back on the idea that staying "friends" is the same as being good co-parents. You can be polite and respectful without being friends and without talking about anything beyond your daughter's schedule, which might save you those two days of feeling awful.
