Kept the house or took the 401k - I chose wrong I think
When my ex and I split in Greenville last year, I had to pick between keeping our house or taking half of his 401k which was about 55k. I went with the house because I thought it was stable, but now the water heater died and the roof needs patching. Anyone else have to make a call like this and wish they picked the other way?

Should have cashed out. Houses are just expensive problems on a good day. Retirement accounts don't leak from the roof.

Is a leaky roof really that big of a deal... I mean @nina_johnson86, you can patch that in an afternoon for like 40 bucks. Meanwhile my 401k lost 12% last quarter and I can't even sell the thing to pay for a new hot water heater. A house at least you can live in while it's falling apart, can't say the same for a retirement account when the market tanks...
