Looking at my phone contacts from a year ago compared to now is a real trip
Right after the split, my contact list was full of shared friends and his family, maybe 150 names total. I spent a few months feeling lonely and just scrolling through it. Then I started going to a support group in Toledo every other week and met some new people. Now my list has about 80 contacts, but they're all actually mine, people I chose to keep or new friends who get my situation. How did your social circle shift after everything settled?

Did you find the smaller circle felt more real, even with fewer names?

Oh absolutely, @spencerm46. A tiny group where everyone actually knows your coffee order feels way more solid than a big list of people who just liked one photo, you know? It's the difference between a real conversation and just shouting into a crowded room.

My buddy runs a neighborhood bar where maybe thirty regulars rotate through on any given week and honestly that place feels more alive than some massive sports bar with hundreds of people. It's like the difference between a playlist somebody made for a party and a store brand compilation CD - one has thought and memory behind it, the other is just noise. I've noticed that in most things, the more people you try to include the more watered down the actual connection gets. Way easier to feel like you belong somewhere when the group is small enough that your absence would actually get noticed.
