The automatic garage door opener my ex installed finally gave out after 12 years of fighting with it

It jammed halfway up last Thursday morning while I was already running late for work, so I had to leave my car in the driveway and take the bus, which is something I haven't done since before the divorce back in 2017, and now I'm trying to figure out if I should just replace it myself or call a pro, anyone else get stuck fixing stuff your ex set up in a half-baked way?

I read somewhere that opener motors last around 10-15 years on average, so yours hanging on for 12 sounds about right. In my experience, the half-baked installs usually have a loose chain or track alignment issue that's easy to fix yourself if you have a level and a socket set. Just a heads up though, if the circuit board got fried when it jammed, you're probably better off calling a pro for a full replacement.

Yeah @laura_black31 is right about the circuit board, but 12 years is actually pretty solid for a garage opener.
