The week my ex took the dog and I finally felt free
Last Tuesday, my ex came to pick up our golden retriever for his weekend and I spent the whole 3 days just sitting in silence, no barking or slobber to clean up. It hit me that I'd been holding onto the dog just to feel connected to our old life, not because I actually wanted a pet right now. Has anyone else had a weird moment where losing something you thought you needed actually felt like a relief?

Losing something you thought you needed actually felt like a relief" - man, that hit me hard. I had a similar thing happen when I gave away my old gaming PC after a breakup, thought I'd miss it but ended up just sitting there feeling lighter. Sometimes we hold onto stuff because we're scared of the empty space, not because we actually want it.

@henry_martinez nailed it. The gaming PC became a symbol of the past you, and letting it go broke that connection. Empty space can feel scary at first, but it's just room for better stuff to come.
