Tried letting my kids choose their own dinner after the split

I started letting my two boys pick dinner every Wednesday after my ex and I separated... first week they both just wanted McDonald's and I felt like a failure. Then last week my 7 year old asked for a recipe his mom used to make and we actually cooked it together without any tears. Has anyone else had their kids surprise them like that during this whole process?

Hang on though, that's actually a really sweet moment, not a surprise that's going wrong. Sounds like your kid is finding a way to keep a good memory of his mom while still being with you, which is pretty great. It's those little wins that can be the most unexpected, so don't sell yourself short.

Blame the McDonald's for making you feel like a loser not the kids.

Blame the McDonald's for making you feel like a loser not the kids. @felixramirez I mean think about it though. That place is designed to rush you through with bright lights and beeping machines so you never really sit down and enjoy anything. Then you look over and see your kid laughing with a toy while you're still standing in line feeling frustrated. It's like the whole setup is working against you, not your kid just trying to have a good time.
