I used to think replacing windows was a waste of money, but last winter proved me wrong

My neighbor kept pushing me to swap out my single-pane windows for the double-pane ones, and I figured he was just trying to sell me something. Then December hit and my heating bill jumped to $340, which was double the normal amount. Has anyone else seen a real drop in their energy costs after switching out old windows?

Oh man, my buddy Mark was in the same boat last year. He had these old wood frame windows in his 1920s house that were basically just holes in the wall with glass in them. He finally swapped them out last fall and he said his gas bill dropped like $80 a month that winter. The best part was he told me the house actually felt warmer too, like he wasn't getting that cold draft from the kitchen no matter how high he turned the heat up. He's still bragging about it a year later.

Yeah I saw on This Old House that newer windows pay for themselves pretty fast.
