Just realized my neighbor was wrong about painting over wallpaper
Overheard a guy at the hardware store last Saturday saying you should always peel old wallpaper before painting. But I tried painting right over a textured wallpaper in my hallway bathroom two months ago and it's holding up fine. No peeling, no bubbles, just needed a good primer coat first. Am I missing something or is the extra work sometimes not worth it for certain wall conditions?

Man people act like you committed a crime if you paint over wallpaper. If the bond's good and you use a decent primer it's not the end of the world. I've seen plenty of perfectly fine paint jobs over wallpaper that lasted years. Half the time the people freaking out about it are the ones who used cheap latex straight on top of glossy paper and then act surprised when it peels.

Ngl, I tried that once and ended up with a bathroom that looked like it had some kind of weird skin disease. You probably just got lucky with a good primer, honestly.

...and honestly, you have to consider that textured wallpaper is its own beast. Most people trying to paint over smooth wallpaper without prep are the ones ending up with a mess, not the ones with a good texture that helps the primer grab.
