My basement floor went from gray to green in just 6 months

I painted my concrete basement floor with a cheap Rust-Oleum epoxy kit last spring. Fast forward to October and there's patches of green mold and peeling paint everywhere. Turns out I didn't clean the floor right before painting. Has anyone else had their paint job fail because they skipped the prep work?

Yeah did you use that muriatic acid wash first? I scrubbed the hell outta mine with a stiff brush and that acid stuff, waited a full day for it to dry bone dry, then put down two coats of the good epoxy. Mine is still holding up after two winters no peeling or mold. It sucks cause the prep is the longest part but if you skip it you're just wasting money in the end.

Yo, did you have to deal with any efflorescence before you coated it? My garage floor had that white powdery stuff real bad and I had to hit it with a degreaser and wire brush like 3 times before the acid etch would even work right. Once I got it clean and dry though, that epoxy stuck like crazy and still looks fresh after 3 years now.
