Old guy at the hardware store taught me more than any YouTube video ever did

I was at Ace Hardware in Spokane last spring trying to figure out which paint roller would work for my textured ceiling. This older dude, probably 70, saw me staring at the bins and just walked over. He said "son, you want a 3/4 inch nap, not that 1/2 inch stuff" and handed me a Wooster roller. I took his advice and my ceiling came out smooth as butter. Has anyone else had a random stranger completely change their approach to a project?

That "smooth as butter" line really hit me because it's something you just don't get from a YouTube comment section. People with actual hands-on EXPERIENCE carry this quiet confidence that cuts through all the noise and guesswork. I think that's the real value of old hardware store wisdom - it's not just about the tool, it's about having someone who's already made the mistakes tell you exactly how to skip them.

Take it easy, it's just picking a paint roller, not brain surgery.

Oh come on @logan705, you're acting like it's nothing but have you seen the difference between a good nap and a cheap one? I swear it's like night and day when you're actually rolling paint, not just talking about it. I mean, sure, it's not life or death, but if you pick wrong you're stuck with streaks and splatter for years. People act like it's no big deal but then they end up redoing the whole wall. I don't know man, maybe it's just me but I could nitpick this stuff all day.
