Pro tip: I swapped from caulk to backer rod for my bathroom gaps

I was redoing the trim around my tub last month and kept fighting with caulk sinking into those deep gaps. Finally grabbed a roll of backer rod for $8 at Home Depot and stuffed it in first. Then the caulk sat on top perfect and didn't crack after a week. Has anyone else made the switch or still just layering caulk like I used to?

Nah, $8 still feels like a lot for some foam rod.

$8 for backer rod?" That's like a third of what I spent.

Jeez, and I thought I was being cheap with my own foam rod purchase. Guess I'm just bad at bargain hunting, classic me.
