Rant: Hit 30 gallons of stored water and realized I was doing it all wrong
I finally got my water storage up to 30 gallons last week, which felt huge at first. But then I actually tested the oldest container and it had this weird plasticky taste, man. Turns out I wasn't rotating my stock at all, just stacking them up and forgetting about them. I had to dump 10 gallons that were basically stale because I didn't date a single bottle. Now I got a cheap marker and a piece of tape on each one with the month I filled it. That 30 gallons number was a wakeup call more than a win. Anyone else find their storage system is only as good as their labeling habits?

Permanent marker on the cap is a good trick but it can smudge off over time if the bottles get handled a lot... Better to use an oil-based paint pen or scratch the date right into the plastic with a knife if you really want it to last. Rotating's still the main thing though, gotta use the oldest first or you're just making fancy dust collectors like you said.

Oh man, the plasticky taste is the worst! I had the same thing happen with a few of my jugs and it's so disappointing to dump out all that water. Markers and tape are lifesavers but I also write the date on the cap with a permanent marker so it's quick to spot. Rotating is a pain but you really gotta do it or you're just making expensive dust collectors.
