Why is everyone obsessed with buying 50-pound bags of rice for prep? I think it's a waste of space.

After the power outage last month in Austin, my neighbor had 40 pounds of rice she couldn't cook because her stove was electric. Instead of giant bags, I keep a 5-pound bucket and a camp stove with fuel canisters, which cost me $30 total and got me through 4 days. Has anyone else dealt with having food you couldn't actually use when the grid went down?

Man people buy stuff for prepping without actually testing it first. I see the same thing with my neighbor who bought a whole pallet of freeze dried meals but never ate one until the power went out and found out he hated the taste. It's like when someone buys a gym membership and never goes, except here you're stuck with 50 pounds of something you can't even use. I figure if you can't practice using your supplies in a normal weekend, you're just collecting expensive clutter. Better to buy small and actually know it works.

Yo did you read that article about the prepper who bought a whole year's worth of canned goods from some company and then found out the cans were all dented and expired by like 5 years? Its wild how people drop serious cash on this stuff without even opening a single package. I saw a comment on a survival forum where a guy said he bought 50 lbs of rice but never stored it right and bugs got into it. Like bro, you literally couldve tested a small bag first. Your neighbors story sounds exactly like that, he basically paid for a lesson he coulda learned for free with one meal. Better to eat one freeze dried dinner now and hate it than be stuck with a pallet of regret later.

A whole pallet of freeze dried meals and he never even tasted one? Thats like buying a car without sitting in it first.
