That moment my $5 furnace fix turned into a 9 hour headache

Thought I was being smart replacing a flame sensor for cheap, but the new one wouldn't seat right and I ended up wrestling with the burner assembly until midnight. Has anyone else had a quick job spiral into an all day mess randomly?

Screwed in the wrong size flame sensor last year on my unit. Had to take the whole burner tray out to get clearance. What finally saved me was using a nut driver instead of a screwdriver, let me get better angle without stripping anything. Also learned to take pictures before I disassemble stuff. Now I check part numbers twice and keep a headlamp handy for those dark tight spots.

My buddy did the exact same thing with the "check part numbers twice" part, grabbed a gas valve that looked right but was off by a thread size. He spent a whole Saturday fighting it before his neighbor pointed out the mismatch. Now he takes a picture of the old part next to a ruler before he even leaves the house.

Wait, did you at least get the headlamp thing sorted before you started? Nothing worse than wrestling with parts you can't see.
