Used to think plumber's putty was a scam until my sink dripped for 3 weeks straight

I was that guy who'd just slather silicone caulk around every drain fitting and call it done. Last month my kitchen sink started leaking again after only 4 months and I was losing my mind. Finally grabbed a $4 tub of putty from Ace, rolled it into a snake, and pressed it under the flange. Not a single drip in 30 days now. Anyone else swear by the old school stuff over modern sealants?

My neighbor handed me a tube of the stuff six years ago and I threw it in a drawer thinking I'd never use it. After fighting with those caulk tubes that always dry out before you finish the job, I tried the putty on a bathroom drain last month and it's been bone dry. Honestly, the fact that you can mold it with your fingers and it doesn't shrink or crack has me feeling pretty dumb for avoiding it all these years.

Wait, you had a drip for THREE WEEKS? How are you not losing your mind by day 3 lol? I would've been up at 2am watching YouTube tutorials and pacing around the hardware store. Just wild to me that you stuck with silicone that long when the putty is like $4 and takes 10 minutes. Man, I hate that the hard way is always the one we gotta learn from.
