Hit 100 feet of weatherstripping before I realized my gap was the real problem

Ngl, I measured five times and still bought the wrong thickness the first round. Has anyone else spent a whole afternoon sealing a swing that wasn't even the issue?

120 inches of foam tape later I found my front door still leaking air from the bottom. Sometimes it's better to step back and look at the whole picture instead of just patching the obvious spots.

Is it really that big of a deal though... a little draft under the door hardly makes or breaks your heating bill. People act like their house is going to cave in if they don't have every crack sealed up.

Hang a broomstick across the bottom of the door frame, @drew690 - that trick saved me a ton of headache. You want to create a seal that actually flexes with the floor instead of fighting it. I had to swap out the whole sweep on my back door, got one of those silicone bulb types from the hardware store for about 12 bucks.
