I finally understood why my grandpa hoarded old paint cans

I was cleaning out his garage last weekend and found like 30 half-used cans of paint from the 80s. I told him it was junk but he got real quiet and said I'd understand when I had to match a color that didn't exist anymore. Then I tried to touch up a spot in my kitchen where the drywall patch showed through... and the store couldn't match the 6 year old color. Had to repaint the whole wall. Now I get why he kept every single can. Anyone else find yourself holding onto weird leftovers that felt dumb but actually saved you?

Did you hear about that big paint company that's been getting sued lately for changing their formulas and dropping old colors? I swear I read something about how they basically made thousands of shades obsolete and people lost their minds. Makes you wonder if the paint industry is just built on planned obsolescence or something. I've got a half gallon of this weird sage color from 2019 I'm terrified to use up because I know I'll never match it again.

Read an article about that lawsuit. Sounds like they changed the binder formula and a bunch of colors came out looking completely different than what people bought before.
