Lost my phone in the couch for 3 hours until I remembered my dad's old trick with a shop vac and a sock

Happened last Saturday. I was watching the game and dropped my phone between the cushions. Musta fallen all the way under cause I spent an hour digging around and nothing. Stuck a thin sock over the end of my shop vac, taped it tight, and sucked around the edges. Pop. Phone came right out. Worked 100 percent. My dad used to do this for lost coins and keys back in the 90s. Has anyone else tried this for tight spaces like car seats or under the fridge?

Worked on my car seat too. Dropped a AirPod down the side of the driver seat last month. Tried fishing with my hand for 20 minutes. No luck. Grabbed my shop vac with a sock over it like you said. Popped right out on the second pass. Only downside is the sock gets filthy if you use a dirty one.

The sock trick is a game changer but yeah, you gotta grab a clean one or you're just rubbing dirt into everything. I've lost way too many things down car seats and the hand fishing method never works for me either. Next time try taping a straw to the vacuum hose if it's a tight spot, gives you a little more reach into those weird crevices between the seat and the console. Also learned the hard way to check the sock for holes first, sucked a quarter into the vacuum that way and it made a terrible noise.

Wait, isn't it weird how the best life hacks are always the ones our parents figured out before we were born? It's like all the simple stupid solutions were already out there, we just gotta stop overcomplicating stuff first.
