Tried using a cheap trick from a Reddit comment to fix my sticky door hinge
My neighbor Dave laughed at me for spending $4 on a pack of shims instead of buying a $60 door kit, and after 10 minutes of adjusting the hinge pins, the door closes perfect now. Has anyone else found a dumb simple fix that made their expensive tool collection feel totally useless?

My buddy Mike spent 80 bucks on a fancy door planer tool that he used exactly once. Shims are just thin wedges of wood or plastic, they've been around forever. The expensive kit just does the same job but looks prettier in the box. Sometimes the cheapest fix works better because it forces you to slow down and think. It's funny how the most expensive tool in your garage can be the one that gathers dust while a 99 cent pack of shims saves the day.

Mike at the lumberyard told me those expensive planer tools actually can mess up hollow core doors if you're not careful - they bite too deep and tear the facing. Shims just sit there doing their job quietly.
